MofM: Willow Tree
Month of Music Day 3 Plumb Willow Tree Plumb
It will be great to see you again Now that the old wounds have mended I promise I'll be waiting by the door Unlike so many nights before That night you found me in the living room Alone with the bottle I'd just consumed I cried for hours after you had left Must be hard to forgive Even harder to forget [Pre-chorus:] So do you recall how to get there You might not recognize that you see [Chorus:] Take the 2nd right at the 2nd light Pass Cherry Street on the left It's the 2nd house with the willow tree I'll be there Waiting Now that I've watched all the seasons change I've had time to see where my life had strayed And through every pain and disbelief You stood close by Through my lies, through my deceit [Pre-chorus:] So do you recall how to get here You might not recognize what you see [Chorus:] Take the 2nd right at the 2nd light Past Cherry Street on the left It's the 2nd house with the willow tree I'll be there Waiting [Bridge:] Through my selfishness Couldn't see where you were coming from It took your leaving to see To see what I'd become You saw past all the things I'd done [Chorus:] Take the 2nd right at the 2nd light Past Cherry Street on the left It's the 2nd house with the willow tree I'll be there Waiting I'll be there, waiting I'll be there, waiting You never forgot how to get there You never forgot how to get there You never forgot how to get there
My Take:
Am I emo? Honest, there are happier songs coming. But I needed to get this one over with, because I didn't even realize what I was listening to for years. I got both of the original Plumb albums the same day in Virginia while I was in Officer Basic School. I loved these two CDs, and would routinely only stop listening to one so that I could listen to the other. I didn't really have a favorite song from either CD, they were both awesome. Many years later I was driving back to Mississippi to turn in some stuff from my fun-filled vacation in Iraq, and I was listening to the station in Jackson. It was about 1 AM, and I was just trying to find a place to sleep. I never really listened to the lyrics before. On the CD, there are some movies, and one of the promo movies has an explanation of the song. I heard the lyrics for years, but I never really comprehended. In the early morning, this became my favorite Plumb song. Turns out that this is the only Christian drinking song that I've ever found. Yes, Christians drink, and not just Catholics and the like. But for some people, it turns into a problem. The point of the song is that there are people who care about you, even when you are doing bad things. I'm sure that whoever was looking out for the singer couldn't care less about wether or not they ever get back together, just as long as the singer can get the alcoholism under control. It's more real that I think that people want in their Christian music. It's sobering. It's almost as if Christians have the same problems as non-Christians. That's why it's on the list. It is an awesome, meaningful song. And it fits that prerequisite to make the list...I make people shut up and turn the radio up.
