At one point I was in front of a mountain. I do love mountains, you see. This is me, in front of a mountain. I've run several 5ks, survived a war, I even have a mortgage now, but let's talk about the mountain. It is very tall.

This was me in front of Mt. Rainier. It's even taller than it looks. It's a beautiful mountain, but I not really sure that is what brought you here.

Who Am I?

First, there was an explosion. Then the universe was formed. Then, after a few billion years, the crust of the Earth...I'll spare you the details. You can read about it in a book or something. Suffice it to say that I am the result of countless years of my own bad ideas and well-intentioned ideals.

I guess I wanted somewhere I could be smart. Like, as smart as I usually am, but nobody around me cares about. Believe it or not, it is not fun to almost always be the smartest person in the room. I wanted a place where I could be smart and not have to worry about being judged for it. So, I made this site.

There are degrees and certificates from Southern Miss, ECCC, the US Army, and even Duke on my wall. While I am not a doctor, lawyer, or anything else that would make me a professional. I am just a guy who likes to write about stuff and frequently gets into arguments about it.

What the Site Represents

As Douglas Adams said, “I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.”

He also wrote

“In the beginning the Universe was created. This had made many people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.”1

He also wrote, "The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't."2 That's why i have the sense of humor I have. Now you know who to blame.

Why It Exists

I mean, I wrote the flat-file static-site-generator fully-buzzword compliant bloggawazzits from scratch. I had to put it to good use somewhere. I've always been a tinkerer and I've always been a writer. So, I figured why not put them together and see what happens.

Bonus Addling...

If you were wondering, no that isn‘t "loc.us" as in "locus of control". It is "1oc.us", not the word from Latin. While it's true I am a big fan of the word "locus" and I wanted a domain name that was short, easy to remember, and not already taken. So, I went with "1oc.us", as in the number one then oc then .us because that's how websites work.

It‘s short, memorable, and easy to type. And it is a play on the word "locus", which is a word I like. So, there you have it.3

And for some bizzare reason you got here instead of the Library of Congress, which is where loc.us takes you, sorry about that. I am glad you are here.

And if you got here because you mistyped "locus" as "1oc.us". I guess that is a good thing. I am glad you are here.
