Month of Music Day 27 Sierra Sierra Sierra Lord, here I am again In search of a quiet place to rest I'm walking in a wilderness That always puts me to the test My hope is in the truth I have no strength apart from You So when I need to hear Your voice I have a choice [Chorus:] These steps of life I'll climb To reach a home to call it mine On holy ground right by Your side Is where I need to be A higher place Sierra A higher place Sierra A higher place The miles, they stretch ahead They twist and turn and never end Shaking my confidence 'Til I run to Your arms again That's when, You lift me up In sweet communion's holy cup I see the valleys down below I won't let go [Chorus:] These steps of life I'll climb To reach a home to call it mine On holy ground right by Your side Is where I need to be A higher place Sierra A higher place Sierra A higher place These steps of life I'll climb To reach a home to call it mine On holy ground right by Your side Is where I need to be A higher place Sierra A higher place Sierra A higher place

My Take:

So, one day I'm looking at my CD collection, and I make the off-hand thought, "this band sounds nice, but they'll never have another hit, and wouldn't record another album. I liked this song, but I had no idea why I would even care whether or not the band was going to keep going on. It just seemed like they were not going to come back. It wasn't until a couple of years later, when I was talking to Gina that I was looking through _her_ CD collection, that I saw the next Sierra album, Devotion. That's when I told her about what I thought about the band. "So, you thought they weren't any good?" she asked. "It's not that I didn't think they were any good, It's just that I didn't they had staying power." I'm not sure how in the world that line of logic had ever popped into my feeble brain. "Well, I guess you were wrong." I was. In fact, they also went on to record Story of Life and Change. All the while, I'd yet to record album the first. To this day, I've yet to record an album. That story sticks with me for this reason: I underestimated them. I did so without any thought to their abilities or desires. It really showed me that I can be judgmental, and that I can issue edicts based on little more than a bad idea. I pray for wisdom. It's another thing Gina taught me. Someday I'll be wise, and I'll have Gina to thank for it.
