My Take:

The reason I wanted so badly to start a Youth Group at my Church in Mississippi was that I wanted to give the kids something to look forward to. I wanted them to have something cool. I wanted then to have the same thing that I had. In 1990, I moved to Tennessee to start college. Since we'd never spent much time together, other than a few weeks in the Summer, me and my Mom didn't know each other that well. Needless to say, we didn't get along. We went over to the Church where my parents met and married, and I was instantly enthralled by the college women and the charismatic leader of the College and Career class. Terry was a great guy, and I looked up to him, even though I was 4 inches taller. He taught me in a little over a year about being a spiritual leader. Fast forward 10 years, and I'm following his example. I'm working with kids, and putting my heart out there, and getting the kids involved. It was a great time I look back on with fond memories. Someday I hope to do it again. I was driving in Dothan, Alabama, when I first heard this song. It never occurred to me that I might be doing that very simple, great thing. I planted seeds. I did the same thing that Terry did for me. There are other trials that we have in life. How do you deal with them? Where do you go for answers? A lot of people take the low road. Booze, drugs, sex, StrongBad emails...so many ways to handle the stresses of life. This is my challenge to you: look around, do you see someone in need? Is it the one in the mirror? How can you be a hero to them?
