As you'll notice, there's a row of text links underneath every post here at MacStansbury.com. Until today, you could read the full posts in the archive pages or on the permalink page. I'm told that duplicate posts are bad for SEO, but I think it's bad form to make people work harder to find out how to read things. I've relented, however, and I've added something else that I'm not sure works.

Tailrank is the meme-tracking site that's built in a way that everybody's got the chance to make the front page. I'm not sure how, but that's the idea. Someday, when I've got a high-traffic site, I'll see if that's true. Until then, here's something you can stick on your site that may, or may not, get you indexed in Tailrank.

I first saw the code on a page at Agent Bedhead, while looking for any hint of Britney's sanity. Sadly, while I doubt that'll ever be found (if it ever existed), I did find something on this page. Yes, I mean besides a moistened Katie Holmes.

It was a link to the Tailrank news sharing feature. I'm not sure what it is, or if it even works, but I thought I'd try it out anyway. You have to sign up for a free membership, then put it in the cue. All I get are errors, so I'm not sure its because it doesn't work, or because I have a laughably horrible amount of web traffic.

I inquired as to how Ms. Bedhead had garnered such nifty linkanology, and she told me it was a smooth blend of the Sociable plugin and massive CSS redux. As you know, I detest WordPress plugins for WordPress plugins' sake, and I like to hand-jam as much code as I can. I looked at what the Sociable plugin used, and modified it to my own evil needs. Behold!

All on one line, of course.

This only works for WordPress, but you could stick Movable Type or Blogger codes in there and get the exact same effect. Instead of the "Add to Tailrank," you can put an image file. Or, of course, just about anything you want to stick in there. I'm using my bare-bones approach, and the hope that somebody will click it.
