My advice: check your template for the feed RSS URL

Not really 10,000. While this site is no TechCrunch, it's got more than zero readers. Just how many is, as always, in doubt. I was greeted with this when I checked the FeedBurner stats today (which you can kinda see here):

That's gleaned from how many people marked the story as read in whatever feedreader they use. It's not a lot, no, but it's more than zero. In fact, it's a steady trend I've seen over the past year, when I started messing with FeedBurner. Here's a chart showing the progress.

What I didn't do before was move all the RSS subscriptions to FeedBurner using special rules. I put up a link, but even Safari would send people to the link from the default setup of then Textpattern, now WordPress. It took a long time to get all the feed going to the place I wanted, including a long-running battle with Google Feedfetcher.

Instead of sending people to [http://feeds.feedburner.com/Macstansbury](http://feeds.feedburner.com/Macstansbury), it would send them to http://macstansbury.com/feed, or whatever the template had in the HEAD section. To get folks using your FeedBurner feed wether they know it or not, replace whatever's in your template's header with this:

<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS 2.0" href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/YOURLINKHERE" />

Then you could use something like AntiLeech (which does other amazing things) to redirect all possible traffic to your FeedBurner feeds. That way, you'll have as accurate a picture as anybody can glean without searching through server logs, looking for referrers. This isn't foolproof, though.

I set up all four feeds from the syndication page in the header, and it messed up my relationship with Technorati, and you know how much I love my Technorati. In fact, it messed up my relationship with Feedster, Kinja, and almost everybody else that reads the feeds to figure out what's on your site (except, of course Google).

While asking people to get the With a linkness feed, with all it's additional goodness, I was messing up all the other services. I'm not sure if that the extra feeds in the header confused the scrapers, but taking them out has worked out well, so keep that in mind.
