Pretentious
A funny thing happened while I was putting my boots on tonight. I was clearing out my browser tabs, and the last one to go was one of those fancy web designer people who did something common on the genre. Common, in that it seems to be something all those [people who are referred to as] elite designers seem to do.
I figure it has something to do with being in the elite designer category, so it’s well above my pay grade. It just bugs me, though. Seems a bit…pretentious.
The thing that’s under my skin? One–word titles.
Nothing makes me never want to read what you have to say more than pages filled with one–word titles. Not that there’s nothing wrong with a one–word title, it’s that some people take it too far. It gets old, quickly.
Just remember, you are not e e cummins. Descriptive titles, please.
I should point out, I don’t think design–related blogs with one–word titles are all bad, it just seems like a device that gets old, quickly. Then again, I have the attention span of puppy, so what do I…ooh! Shiny!
What was I doing again?
Right, ranting.
It’s funny — in a totally ironic way — that my rant on pretentious titles is written in a way that is “attempting to impress by affecting greater importance or merit than is actually possessed” [link]. Written in a blog post (also totally pretentious). Explication will be my downfall.
