I spend far too much time watching TV
Right now? I watch LOST, My Name is Earl, and CSI. And football games. I've given in to demon television. I'll add Scrubs when it shows up again. I don't know when it happened, but television just became boring. Not that the shows aren't as exciting as they were before, it's just that there's really little reason for me to get excited about a cast that I know will return, in a mythos that's practically written in stone. That's the reason Smallville never held my attention, nor did it have the change. Revisioning something is just making all the people younger.
Even when they don't have a set mythos, a show can run its course. I stopped watching ER because I lost track of the characters. As the older actors were killed off, the interest in it waned. Battlestar Galactica is a complete rebuild of a rather thin story, this time fleshing out the characters and giving them even less of assurance that they'll survive. Yet, if a simple thing as a shaky camera can distract me, then the show doesn't have what I need. So what is it about LOST that keeps me coming back? I believe it's something to do with just how I have a need for adventure. Not a great need, but it does fill that longing to solve the mystery. As I'm following the dangling carrot, I get a nibble here and a nibble there. That's what keeps me coming back. That's partially what keeps me watching CSI, just to see the forensics, and gotta love the gruesome killings. My Name is Earl is the funniest show I've seen in years, with real, belly laugh-getting material every week. I wasn't like this since they cancelled Doctor, Doctor (a show cursed by its timeslot and network - CBS) and News Radio (a show cursed by its timeslot and because it didn't have a tie-in to ER like another show did - I'm looking at you, Suddenly Susan). Long story short, I like LOST. The end. Now go buy it in iTunes and make me rich. UPDATE: Oy vey. I wrote this last night as a way to con you out of your hard-earned iTunes money, but I had no idea I was auditioning for the NSA. I know folks from the NSA...it's rather spooky, if you ask me. Some of you will get that pun.
