My Blog Juice

Yes, I have a mere 4.1 rating, according to Text Link Ads. While I'm not going to get into my customary rant about "this ain't a blog" in the interest of expediency, but how did they come at that low showing for my status? Because I don't rank in Bloglines. Frankly, I could care less about Bloglines subscriptions, I get more hits on the RSS feed from NewsFire than I do from what it says I get from Bloglines. The same is true for Safari, NetNewsWire, and even Flock. Yes, Flock. There's a couple of Pluck subscribers, but most of the subscribers to the RSS feed for MacStansbury.com are from Firefox. You can watch the magical numbers change on a daily basis on the syndication page, but the stats in FeedBurner tell me most are Firefox Live Bookmarks. Not unexpected at all, really. How the stats that TLA uses, from Bloglines, making up 40% of the juice, is beyond me. Bloglines has a feature where it can keep your subscriptions private. So, noone else can find out what you're really reading, unless you make the subscription public. I'm not sure just how this affects the public count, but it can't be good. My point is that it creates another layer of indecision, and makes this seem to be inaccurate, regardless of what's really going on. (For the record, it Bloglines reports 4 subscribers, so 0 isn't that far off) And what of the other indicators? I already posted on how Alexa is rather inaccurate, and how Technorati can be gamed for you. The only thing I can come up with, is that the Blog Juice Calculator is just there to show off things that are really not all that indicative of your reach as a blogger, but more your hapless drones. Now, I have no idea what would better suit this (other than including TTLB stats - that's accurate!), but it's a nice start. Strangely, I figure that 4.1 rating to be sadly accurate, I just can't explain how to measure things more clearly. Mostly, I'm just mad my juicy number's not higher...oh, and then there's this...
