When I posted a simple tutorial on How to install iBox in WordPress, I didn't figure I'd get the response I got. Then, somebody asks me how to install it in Blogger. I figured, what with my technique for WordPress, it shouldn't be that hard at all. But there's a problem using Blogger than you're not going to have with WordPress: file uploads. For the most part, you can only upload photos to Blogger, so it's almost impossible to get the iBox files up there, right? Wrong. While Google was working on the new Blogger beta, they needed a place to figure out some of the ways to test the new features. A limited public beta of Google Pages let a few lucky people use the almost instant publishing and WYSIWYG editor for the pages. If you've used the new Blogger beta, you'll see those tools in the template and in publishing. It's going to make using Blogger that much better, but there was something else in Google Pages that a lot of people saw, and they though was really great: file uploads.

For the most part, all you have to do is have a Google account (one with a Gmail address), and you've got a Google Pages account. If you don't have a Gmail address, just ask. Then the entire world of Google will be at your fingertips. And so will some uploaded files. In fact, it's so easy to install iBox, I literally took more time uploading a photo and writing an entry (or, in this case, rewriting an entry) than it took to get iBox installed. It's that easy, and here's all you have to do: 1. Upload the files (from here) to your Google Pages (see the note below) 2. Add this code to your Blogger theme (change the XXX to your name): <script text="text/javascript" src="http://XXX.googlepages.com/ibox.js" ></script> <link rel="stylesheet" href="http://XXX.googlepages.com/ibox.css" type="text/css" media="screen" /> 3. Republish you blog That would be it. Now, every time you stick rel="ibox" into the links to your images, you'll get the neato effect. Look at it here (not a real ad, just click it).

How to make the iBox files work on Blogger

You need to make two changes in the iBox files to make them work. Do this before you upload the files, or you're going to have problems, and then I'll have to fix them. I'm doing this for free, remember? First, you need to take the ibox.js file, and where it says this: var indicator_img_path = "/images/indicator.gif"; Make it this: var indicator_img_path = "/indicator.gif"; And in the ibox.css, find this: #ibox_content { And add this anywhere before the next } text-align:left; Do that, and get ready for the adoration of your fans, and the lamentation of your enemies.
