I'm trying to get Technorati to index MacStansbury.com again, so I'm looking at any of the possible things that could be wrong in the site's code. I checked to see if the pages validate, or there's something wrong with a plugin that blocks bot access, but I've been unable to get to the secret. Looking through the .htaccess, I saw something I did a while back when I changed the Ruminations category to Overthinking.

In that change, I put in a redirect command that would send everybody from macstansbury.com/ruminations/anything to macstansbury.com/overthinking/anything. When I put that it, I meant it to be a permanent change, but I really didn't say anything implicitly. That means, I didn't put in any redirect code.

This morning, I decided it might be a good idea to let the search engines in on my ploy to make everybody go to the right place, so I did what any red-blooded American would do, stuck a 301 redirect in there. It's the American way, people.

Then I hoped Technorati would come.

It didn't.

Everybody else did, though. Yahoo! sent it's 8 zillion spiders, and there was the Googlebot, and even Live. Lots over other, smaller bots showed up to feast in the redirection as well. But, sadly, not Technorati. It's like putting on your prettiest dress, getting your hair looking spectacular, getting just the right shoes, and looking absolutely perfect, and the guy you're trying to impress doesn't even give you the time of day. That's how I am with Technorati, it seems.

I guess Technorati just doesn't like cross-dressing tech-geeks.

UPDATE: I guess the cross-dressing remark helped. That, and going into the support section and writing a detailed explanation of how your RSS feed needs to be read, after checking to see if everything validates, and making sure your site clearly describes your site in the meta. That, and mentioning cross-dressing.

Creating a Technorati tag doesn't hurt, either, I guess.
