Blogging?
I am not a blogger. I tried it for a while, but found it to be exactly what I'd imagined: a bunch of windbags going on endlessly about how much better they are at figuring out the world that everybody else is. Amusingly, that, my friends, is exactly what I'm talking about: a line of verbosity that leads nowhere. It isn't that I've grown tired of people who blog, I've grown weary of the blogging scene. This coming from someone who's got an ad-revenue generated blog aggregator business-thing. The irony is not lost on me. As I sat down to write something - anything here - I realized it would just be me going on like yet another blogger. I've become the thing I hate. There was a Smalltown Poets song with that in mind:
I think I am elastic These arms, they are a wonder They go from sideways up and under I think it's time for something drastic And it could be more than I bargained for Ten to one it is Oh I'm into everything I hate My spirit is not fooled- My members take the bait Oh I'm into everything I hate Still not dead enough To stifle this debate These heels were made for bruising And the cobblestones they're using Are the pleasures of my choosing Oh, I must be born for losing Here, we souls, to hurt no more I lift these hands just like before Cover m' life and down so soon 'Til I'm just like You
Everthing I hate. Great song, lyrics are a statement of how people become things they can't stand, though they fight to stay away from their vices. Pretty much describes me and my life as of the end of July of 2006. As for August of 2006, time to look forward, as I revisit something I linked to before, the foul-languaged essay Why I Hate Personal Weblogs. I figure it needs dusting off. I figure a lot of things. Then I write them down. Something else I can't stand, the use of the personal pronoun 'I.' And 'me.' Those two. They are standard issue words for the modern blogger. It pains me to say that I'm a blogger. I've made it through this painful post, just to create some content, just to say there's something going on here. Just to "blog" something. Ruminating out loud. I have a personal journal going back from 1993, and another journal on and off from the 70s. This is just a 'blog,' or 'website,' or what have you. It is mine, and it's just an extension of me. And, yes, I'm into everything I hate. Addendum: I wasn't really thinking about complaining about blogging, but TCME reminded me that I was blogging about blogging. This is, of course, I think, what I was complaining about: blogging. It's not that I don't hate blogs, it's just that I don't like blogging anymore.
