Am I a del.icio.us power user?
For some reason, I posted this comment on a thread on Digg for Become a del.icio.us Power User. I'm not sure why, either.
It may seem that this is a rather simple list of tips, but the bare features of del.icio.us are exactly what makes it so powerful. There aren't a lot of bells and whistles, but the simplicity belies just how powerful a system it is. I love the thing, and I use it every day. On a lark, I tried out Google Bookmarks just a minute ago. Now I understand why I haven't used it before, or will again. It's an online version of the own bookmarks, and I just get too much data in per day to really go back to one source of non-repeating news. I mean, if it doesn't have an RSS feed, I don't read it, call me a snob. I do, however, use the social bookmarking powers of del.icio.us, mainly to show other people what I find interesting. The reason you've got the other site like Furl and Ma.gnolia is because people want to buy into this global consciousness dohickey. I do it to draw attention to myself, for my mad linking skills. I also do it to find other people of like mind. What I've found on del.icio.us (and Digg and everywhere else, for that matter), is that when somebody else shares a story I linked to, I usually agree with a lot of the other things they link to, we have common interests. One of the features of my site is a simple list of links, updated constantly. It's the same concept as all the social bookmaking sites, and since it's powered by del.icio.us, and of those users can network with me for free - you can do so without ever visiting my site. I've got all the tricks (bundles, auto-posting, etc.) going on, but the main power is that you are connecting with other people.
I guess I am, but you can't really tell, like you can on Digg, or other services. That, if you ask me, is not a bad thing.
